COULTERS TO BE HONOURED AT BISHOP’S HOMECOMING

SHERBROOKE, Que. - The name Bruce Coulter is synonymous not only with sports at Bishop's University, but with university sports across the province and country.  Bruce and wife Joyce will be honoured at a special celebration on Sept. 24, 2016 as part of the Bishop's Gaiters' homecoming festivities.

Over 300 guests including former players, colleagues and friends are expected to celebrate the Coulters at the John H. Price Sports Centre on the Bishop's University Campus on the morning of Sept. 24. After a brief meet and greet, the Coulters will be celebrated on the field that bears their name prior to the 2016 edition of the Gaiters football team kicking off with the St. Mary's Huskies at 2 p.m.

Bruce Coulter D.C.L '88 started his career at Bishop's in 1962, two years after he led the McGill Redmen to the Canadian Intercollegiate Football Championship.  Coulter took the reins of the Bishop's football team and was later named the university's Director of Athletics.  He remained at the helm of the Gaiters on the grid iron until 1987 and leader of the department until his retirement in 1990. He has been recognized as the founder of the athletic program that is in place at Bishop's today.

Prior to donning the purple and silver Coulter was a member of the Montreal Alouettes.  He played for 10 seasons that included a Grey Cup victory in 1949. His dedication and contribution to football earned him a nomination into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1997.

Upon his retirement, both Bruce and Joyce remained active in the Lennoxville community, a place they continue to call home. Over the decades they were mentors and friends to hundreds of Bishop's student-athletes where they created the family atmosphere that is the hallmark of a Bishop's education to this day.

A number of distinguished guests will be in attendance on Sept. 24 to honour Bruce and Joyce Coulter with the launch of The Coulter Family Fund. It has been created to provide funding to athletics at Bishop's starting with the Gaiter football program's area of greatest need.

The event is open to the public includes an all-day barbecue and beverages compliments of Molson/Coors. Complete details and registration information can be found at www.gaiters.ca/coulters.
