LENNOXVILLE, Que. – It is playoff time in the RSEQ University men's basketball conference. For the Bishop's Gaiters that means a trip to Montreal to face the Concordia Stingers on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
The conference is as wide open as it has ever been. The five teams each beat each other at least once this year. Concordia finished in first place at 11-5 while Laval missed the playoffs at 5-11. In between McGill was in second at 9-7, UQAM third at 8-8 and Bishop's fourth at 7-9.
The Gaiters are the league's hottest team entering the playoffs. After starting the year at 3-0, they dropped nine straight before turning it around and finishing the regular season on a four-game win streak; all four victories by two points. In total, 12 of Bishop's 16 games this season were decided by 10 points or less including three of the four against the Stingers.
Coach's Corner
"I think anybody that made the playoffs can win this conference," said Gaiters' head coach
Rod Gilpin. "I would expect that the three playoff games will be very tight. All the teams know each other well and are evenly matched. You are going to have to play well and might need to get a little bit lucky.
"We've played well in that gym (Concordia) the last few years and as a matter of fact I think we've played better on the road than at home this year; the venue doesn't matter."

For Bishop's RSEQ second-team all-star,
Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) twice scored 26 points against the Stingers, single-game highs by a Gaiter in any game this season. Floor General
Kevin Davis (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor H.S.) also had 26 in the Nov. 24 loss.
Nervens Demosthene (Terrebonne, Que./Cegep de Montmorency) registered a career-high 13 assists in the Jan. 12 meeting.
RSEQ MVP Ricardo Monge stung the Gaiters in the first game of the season, he registered a double-double of 24 points and 12 assists but Bishop's held him in check in the next three contests. Sharpshooter Adrian Armstrong scored in double figures for Concordia in all four games, including 25 points on Feb. 16.
