Francis Bellefroid was one of the most intimidating linebackers to dress for the Bishop's Gaiters.  Nicknamed 'The Hammer', he was a three-time Brian Morley Defensive Player of the Year winner for Bishop's. He was also the team's Newcomer of the Year in 1992.

His physical force was recognized across the country.  He was a three-time all-Canadian and in 1994 was a member of the Dunsmore Cup OQIFC championship team.

He still holds the top two spots for single-season tackles by a Gaiter with 86 in 1995 and 81 in 1997. Both years he led the conference.

When he graduated from Bishop's in 1997, Bellefroid had recorded 319.5 tackles and 19.5 sacks. He was drafted 45th overall by the Montreal Alouettes.  Francis eventually chose to continue his playing career in France for a year.

After his playing days, Bellefroid started supply teaching and coaching football.  He worked with the Gaiters for 2 seasons then spent time at Ecole Jean-Jacques Bertrand and Massey-Vanier High Schools.

In 2005 Bellefroid started working for the City of Cowansville, where he continues to work and reside.
