John was an outstanding two sport star with the Gaiters. From 1959-63, John quarterbacked the Football team with distinction. John’s leadership skills earned him the team’s captaincy from 1961 to 1963. His ability as a quarterback was recognized with him being chosen as an Ottawa-St. Lawrence Conference All Star in in 1962. John was also selected as the team Most Valuable Player in 1962 and 1963. The Edmonton Eskimos selected John in the fifth round of the Canadian Football League draft in 1963.

John earned a letter with the varsity Hockey team for four seasons as a stalwart defenseman. Once again his leadership skills enabled John to be named assistant captain in 1962-63 and Captain of the team in 1961-62. In 1963, John was selected the University’s Athlete of the Year award receiving the Hart Trophy.

Upon graduation from Bishop’s, John remained involved with sports coaching football and hockey at Bishop’s College School and Lakefield College for over twenty seven years.

John and his wife Bid reside in Lakefield, Ontario.
