GARTH SMITH
Assistant Director of Athletics - Basketball Coach
Garth Smith was an outstanding coach, administrator, and most of all, a gentlemen in the truest sense of the world.
Garth came to Bishop's in 1954 to be the women's basketball coach and that position developed into an extensive career of 38 years at the university.
During his years at Bishop's, Garth held many positions including Assistant Director of Athletics, Intramural Director, Intercollegiate Coordinator, and Head Golf Professional of the Old Lennoxville Golf Course.
In addition Garth gained national recognition as head coach of the men's basketball team that he led for 25 years.
More importantly than the 532 victories Garth amassed coaching men's women's and junior varsity basketball, he clearly distinguished himself as a coach who cared for the overall development of his players as people and students.
Garth retired from the university in 1992.
