Bishop's Gaiters 1954 Football Team
Under the leadership of new head coach Gordon "Beef" Ross, the 1954 team brought Bishop's its first championship since 1933. The Gaiters went 5-0 overall, and a perfect 4-0 in winning the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Athletic Association "B" division championship, scoring 89 points while only conceding six. The team did not allow a touchdown all season, a feat that is unlikely to ever be matched, as they recorded victories over Macdonald College, the Collège Militaire Royal of St-Jean, and RMC II, as well as an exhibition victory over the Sherbrooke Athletics. Bob Burt and Wally Lynch led the team in scoring with 15 points each.
The members of that team were: Gordon "Beef" Ross (Coach), Nick Powell (Captain), Don Acres, Ray Ayoup, Richard Berryman, Peter Blaikie, Bob Burt, John Douglas, Glyn Edwards, Murray Greenwood, Laurie Hart, Dexter Jolley, Warren Lynch, John Matthews, Bob McHarg, Brad Mitchell, Richard (Sam) Poaps, John Pratt, John Rider, Andy Ross, Edgar Smith, Don Stringer, Jim Keith (Manager) and Ray Ball (Assistant Manager).
